Why is our toothbrush making us sick?
Clinical studies confirm that harmful and deadly microorganisms can incubate on common toothbrushes. These bacteria, yeast, fungi, and viruses cannot only cause oral and gum diseases, but diseases affecting the entire human anatomy. Cross contamination of toothbrushes occur when you unknowingly share your toothbrush with everyone else in the household, by placing it into the same drawer in the bathroom or in the same toothbrush holder on the top of the bathroom sink. The bathroom is by far the most infectious environment within the household. It is usually high in humidity and subject to a multitude of airborne microorganisms into via toothbrush. The only way to sterilize your toothbrush is by an ultraviolet toothbrush sterilizer. Bleaching or placing it in the microwave does nothing. Personally, I just replace my toothbrush if any one has been ill in the household, and also replacing it every 3 months as suggested.
